Policy and Guideline
General Policy
Little Bookworm Chinese Library is free to the public except during peak hours (Saturday morning from 10am - 12pm). Paid membership will be required to check out books.
Library premises and surrounding areas

Children who are under 12 years of age must always be accompanied by a parent or guardian while on the library premises. The responsibility rests with the parent or legal guardian for the care, safety, and behavior of the children in the library.

No food or drink in the library (outdoor patio is open for eating and drinking).

Smoking and alcoholic beverages are NOT permitted on library premises.

No pets or animals are allowed in the library.

Please keep noise to a minimum inside and outside of the library including the play area and parking areas; disruptive or abusive language, gestures, and activities are NOT permitted

Please do not talk or video call on your cell phone in the library to avoid disturbing others. If you need to take a phone call, please do it outside of the library at a moderate volume

To protect your own and everyone else’s safety, please do not tap the glass of the library and surrounding buildings.

Little Bookworm Chinese Library is not responsible for any items lost or stolen. Any lost items found will be held in safekeeping and may be claimed after presenting proper identification.

Please help us keep the library clean; no stickers or doodling on the wall and furniture.

Solicitation is NOT permitted.

Little Bookworm Chinese Library reserves the right to refuse service and/or ask any person(s) disrupting the library environment to leave the premises.

Membership is subscription-based and will automatically renew each year.

Membership can only be used by the person or the family members registered on the membership card.

Members must return borrowed books and materials on time; overdue returns will incur late fees.

If books or materials are lost or damaged, members must compensate the library according to its regulations.

Members must promptly update their personal contact information, such as address, phone number, and email, to receive library notifications and information.

If a member wishes to unsubscribe, they must cancel online. If you do not cancel before the billing date, please contact the library to cancel.

Cancellation requests made within 30 days after the billing date will incur a $5.25 handling fee. Cancellations beyond 30 days are not allowed or if membership benefits and discounts have been used.

The library reserves the right to terminate membership if a member severely violates library rules or engages in illegal activities.

The course discount can only be used once during your membership year (cannot be combined with other discounts). It can be used for all types of courses (full course, workshop, or single class walk-in).

One point is equivalent to one dollar and points are issued when you first become a member. Points can only be used in the first year after becoming a member and used for courses, activities, fines, socks, etc.

Festival special event discounts are issued every year and can only be used for activities or cultural workshops in our Events section (cannot be combined with other discounts). Different membership tiers have varying numbers of reusable discounts.
Book Borrowing

All materials including books are to be checked out prior to leaving the library premises. Borrowed materials should be returned in the same condition they were in prior to check out.

Paid members can borrow 10-15 books at a time for 4 weeks depending on membership level:

Each book can be renewed for another 3 weeks after the initial 4-week loan period.

Every overdue book will be charged $0.25 per day until it is returned. (e.g., when a book is due on 10/1 and is returned on 10/10, the late fee will be counted as 8 days for $2)

Members with overdue books will not be able to check out new books until the books are returned and the fines are paid.

All lost books must be paid for at a cost of $20 each. If the lost book is later found, the payment can be refunded, but a $2 processing fee will be charged.

A repair fee of $2 will be charged for books that are damaged but can be repaired.
Course Services

Throughout the year, we provide spring courses, autumn courses, and summer camps for children of different ages. All courses are taught in Chinese, and the types of courses include music, musical instruments, dance, art, handicrafts, natural sciences, mathematics (abacus mental arithmetic), Chinese learning, and cooking classes, etc..

We recruited current and former school teachers as well as professionals teaching in the community. They all have profound professional knowledge and skills in Chinese teaching and have many years of teaching experience to meet students' diverse needs in language, culture, and other aspects.

For registration information, please refer to the official website for courses and related activity links. To register, you must log in as a free member of the website. Paid members can use exclusive limited discounts.

For each course (more than six classes), one absence is allowed due to personal reasons, and a discount code for a single class will be provided. The discount code must be used within 180 days after issuance, and will be invalid after the expiration date. You must give notice via email 72 hours before the start of the course. No refunds or discount codes will be provided for the second absence onward.

If the number of registered students does not meet the minimum enrollment standard seven days before the course starts, we reserve the right to cancel the activity or course. If a course is canceled, registrants will receive an email notification and receive a full refund.

Refunds are not provided for a single session or less than five sessions (such as workshops, special events, and trial classes).

Cancellation 10 working days before the course start date is fully refundable, but a 15% processing fee will be deducted. The maximum deduction amount is $30. If canceled within 10 working days before the course start date, no refund will be given.

To apply for a refund, please apply via email (info@thejoyculturefoundation.org). Refunds will be made by check or credit card, based on the original method of payment.
Privacy Policy

The library member records are kept confidential. Personal information collected by the library is not shared with any third parties unless required by law.

Little Bookworm Chinese Library reserves the right to modify the privacy policy at any time.
Photography Disclaimer

By entering this library, you acknowledge and agree that you may be photographed or recorded by library staff. These photographs and recordings may be used for promotional purposes, including but not limited to social media, website content, and printed materials. Your presence in the library constitutes your consent to be photographed or recorded and to the release, publication, or reproduction of the photographs and recordings without compensation or further notice.

The library is not responsible for any unauthorized use of photos, videos, or recordings by other patrons.
Book and Toy Donation Policy

Accepted Donation Items:
Books: Including but not limited to children’s books in good condition (80% or above), young adult novels, and parenting books.
Toys: Including educational toys, puzzles, building blocks, and other items in good condition (80% or above).

Items Not Accepted for Donation:
Stuffed animals and dolls.
Damaged or soiled items: Such as books with missing pages, severe damage, deep scratches, or stains, and toys in poor condition.

Distribution of Donated Books and Toys:
Donated books and toys will be allocated to the children’s area, reading areas, or other relevant sections of the library based on the library’s needs. Some donated items may also be used for library-organized charity events or programs, benefiting more members of the community.
The play space will provide an area for infants to develop motor skills and for children up to the age of 5 to play. Little Bookworm Chinese Library will provide toys and supplies.
Play Space Rules

Shoes are not allowed in the play area. All adults and children are required to wear socks when entering the play area (by health code). Socks can be purchased at the front desk.

No food and drinks in the play area.

Parents and guardians, not Little Bookworm Chinese Library staff, are responsible for children and must remain on site at all times.

Wash hands before entering the play area.
-
Take good care of toys and equipment, and put items back to their designated area after usage.

Little Bookworm Chinese Library is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

For safety reasons, children should enter the play space appropriate to their age.
Disclaimer Policy
The library is not responsible for the following situations:

Any personal injury, accidental incident, or property loss occurring within the library or during participation in library activities.

Any loss or damage caused by force majeure events (such as natural disasters, power outages, fires, etc.).

Any damage or loss resulting from misuse or improper use of library facilities, equipment, or resources by users.
Users are responsible for their own safety within the library, including but not limited to:

Adhering to all library rules and safety guidelines.
-
Safeguarding personal belongings to prevent loss or theft.
-
Avoiding any actions that may endanger their own or others' safety.

Children and minors using library facilities and participating in activities must be accompanied by an adult, and their guardians are responsible for their behavior and safety.
Reporting and Handling Incidents:

In the event of an accident or incident, users should immediately report to library staff for timely handling and necessary assistance.

Library staff will take appropriate measures based on the nature and severity of the incident, including but not limited to:

Providing basic first aid;

Contacting emergency services (such as hospitals, fire departments, etc.);

Recording incident details and conducting follow-up investigations.

Limitation of Liability:

The library will only be liable for damages resulting from accidents or unforeseen events to the extent permitted by law.

Unless otherwise required by law, the library is not responsible for any loss, damage, or injury caused by user negligence or violations of library rules.
The library reserves the right to modify and update this policy as needed based on actual circumstances. Thank you for your cooperation!
