Celebrating AAPI Heritage Month ! An interactive, youth-led workshop celebrating AAPI Heritage Month through education. Participants will build community, explore AAPI history, and practice leadership skills through team-building games, group discussions, and hands‑on activities. There will be snacks, icebreakers, and plenty of opportunities to connect. Why This Matters? Many young people don’t see their stories in the curriculum. By learning about AAPI contributions and historical discrimination, teens gain a stronger sense of identity, empathy, and confidence to advocate for their communities. Takeaways / What Kids Will Learn: *Key moments and figures in AAPI history *Common myths about AAPI communities and the facts that debunk them *How AAPI Youth Rising organizes and leads community action *Teamwork and leadership through interactive games Practical tools to become confident youth advocates Speakers: Matthew Sugiyama is Legislative Co‑Lead of AAPI Youth Rising, where he spearheads efforts to integrate AAPI history into school curricula and empowers youth through community organizing. A published op‑ed writer and Act to Change Youth Ambassador, he has led presentations on anti‑Asian hate, spoken on a White House panel, and advocates for elder fraud prevention. His leadership earned him recognition as a Cameron Impact Scholar Finalist. Mina is the founder of AAPI Youth Rising (AYR). President. Having led AYR in having it's mission shared with 54,0000 school sites nationwide, Mina has spoken at numerous White House events, led California's first non-emergency hate reporting hotline with the California Civil Rights Department, and advocated for FDA approval of the first OTC birth control pill. She was named a "Uniter" by President Biden, Time Kid of the Year Top 5, and received the Princeton Prize in Race Relations. *Only register for 9-15 years old participants.








Cancellation Policy
Participation & Risk Acknowledgement I give permission for my child to participate in the Sugar Painting Workshop organized by The Joy Culture Foundation. I understand that this activity involves the use of electrical sugar painting pens and hot, melted sugar. I acknowledge that participation may involve risks, including but not limited to burns, electrical shock, slips, or other injuries. I understand these risks and knowingly and voluntarily assume all risks, whether known or unknown, associated with participation in this activity, to the fullest extent permitted by law. Parental Supervision I understand and agree that my child must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or legal guardian at all times during the workshop. I accept full responsibility for my child’s safety, behavior, and compliance with all safety instructions provided by the organizers or instructors. Release and Waiver of Liability To the fullest extent permitted by law, I hereby release, waive, and hold harmless The Joy Culture Foundation, its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, instructors, and representatives from any and all claims, liabilities, demands, or causes of action arising out of or related to participation in this activity, including those resulting from ordinary negligence. This release does not apply to claims arising from gross negligence or willful misconduct. Medical Authorization In the event of an emergency and if I cannot be reached, I authorize The Joy Culture Foundation to obtain emergency medical treatment for my child. I understand that I am solely responsible for any medical expenses incurred. Photo & Video Release I grant permission to The Joy Culture Foundation to photograph and/or record my child and myself during the workshop and to use such images or recordings for promotional, educational, and documentation purposes, including websites, social media, and printed materials, without compensation. Severability If any provision of this agreement is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. Governing Law & Venue This agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California. Any legal action arising out of this agreement shall be brought in Santa Clara County, California. Acknowledgement & Signature I have read and understand this Parental Consent, Liability Waiver & Media Release. I understand that by signing this document, I am giving up
