Having a bilingual home is different from having a home that is dominated by a single language. Having a home that speaks Mandarin in an English speaking country, has different challenges and successes. One of her greatest goals has always been to preserve Chinese heritage while embracing American culture. She takes immense pride in Jade’s ability to speak Chinese with a perfect accent—so much so that Google recognized her skills and sent her to Taiwan for three months to lead a team. Now, Jade is passing on the tradition by teaching her two children Chinese, even though her husband is not Chinese. Sharon moved to the U.S. as a teenager and attended Burlingame High School. As the daughter of a small business owner, she quickly realized how valuable it was to maintain her Chinese language skills while adapting to life in an all-white community. Her ability to read and write Chinese proficiently has not only helped her navigate the business world but also contributed to her success in real estate.
